U3A prepares for Norfolk Island
MEMBERS of the University of the Third Age (U3A) Corangamite got together last Wednesday for a lunch to catch up before embarking on their next adventure.
Thirteen U3A Corangamite members will leave from Melbourne on April 27 to spend a week on Norfolk Island, returning on May 4.
U3A Corangamite committee member Dominique Fowler said the trip was one of the various activities the group organise for those with shared interests.
“This one just came about as a discussion about travelling over there to see the historic side of Norfolk Island, and from that it snowballed,” she said.
“We advertised it, and we’ve now got 13 participants going.
“We don’t all go to every activity that U3A offers, so we thought it would be nice to actually meet each other prior to them heading to Melbourne, boarding the plane etc., and then living in Polynesian apartments.
“We’ll all be dining together each night, all going on the subsequent tours that have been arranged around Norfolk Island.”
The lunch allowed those going on the trip to share what they hope to do while on Norfolk Island, and give attendees the chance3 to meet others in the U3A community who they will be travelling with.
Mrs Fowler said there were organised tours with the trip, organised through Helloworld Travel, but the attendees will be choosing their own paths.
“It’s really self-motivating in the sense of them having chosen to go for their own reasons,” she said.
“I think the general gist is combining together to explore the historic nature of Norfolk Island.”
