U3A visits Fonterra
A GROUP of University of the Third Age (U3A) Corangamite members visited Fonterra’s Cobden site recently.
The group learnt all about how Fonterra turns local farmers’ milk into a range of dairy products.
U3A Corangamite member Marilyn Kimber said the visit started off with a presentation on the products made at the site including Western Star™ butter, milk powder, fresh milk and cream.
She said the group toured the facility and saw robots lifting large blocks of butter.
Mrs Kimber expressed her fascination with the robotic technology, noting it as a “stand out on the tour”.
“Our visit to Fonterra Cobden was a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of dairy manufacturing, a key industry in the region,” she said.
“The visit also offered a glimpse into the creation of the community-celebrated, award-winning Western Star butter.
“On behalf of U3A Corangamite, I would like to thank Fonterra’s Cobden team for hosting us.
“The visit not only provided an educational experience, but also instilled a sense of pride knowing that Australia’s favourite butter is produced right here in Cobden.”
