WITH three netball sides now preparing to start their finals campaign, Woorndoo Mortlake senior coach Kate Jubb is proud of the club’s position both on and off the court.

“We’ve all had a great year and to have three of our six sides playing finals really is a reward for the effort that’s been put in,” Jubb said.

“We’re a united group and the results are starting to show. Our seniors train as a squad and they have great interaction both on and off the court."

“Unfortunately for us, like so many clubs across the district, we were affected by COVID outbreaks, injuries and unavailability several times throughout the season but to the girls’ credit they always put their hands up to play a second game where needed.”

Jubb said the club’s A grade side was a very different outfit to previous years, with players out due to pregnancy and injury.

But a positive flow-on affect was that it gave many players – both seniors and juniors – the opportunity to experience court-time in the league’s top grade.

“We had a very young and inexperienced A grade team this year but they all did a wonderful job; they improved as the season progressed and that’s not only great for their netball but also for the future of our club.”

The Tigers’ B grade team finished in third spot and will face Ararat this Saturday.

The Tigers’ 17 and under side currently sits on top of the ladder and according to Jubb are “serious flag contenders.”

“Our 17s is a ripper side, led by coach Sarah Cameron, and they have had a cracker season. It would be a great reward for them if they can bring home a flag.”

Jubb also made mention of the Tigers’ youngest players, the 13 and unders, who last weekend snuck into the five with a win over Tatyoon.

“The 13s are so excited to be playing an elimination final this weekend and we’re just thrilled for them. To see how far they’ve come this year and to see their smiling faces week after week is just amazing.”

Jubb said with finals now here, there was a great vibe around the club and she was looking forward to seeing what the coming weeks bring.

“It’s an exciting time not just for the teams involved but also for our many volunteers, sponsors and supporters.”
