TALENTED Cobden footballer Rhys Unwin has taken out the Hampden League’s Doug McConnell Medal.


TALENTED Cobden footballer Rhys Unwin has taken out the Hampden League’s Doug McConnell Medal.
Unwin was named the league’s top under 16 footballer at last Monday’s vote count and presentation evening after finishing with 30 votes.
He finished 10 votes clear of runner-up Tate Waterson from the Koroit Football Netball Club on 20.
Unwin’s impressive home and away season saw him attract three votes in eight of the 15 rounds contested.
He also earned two votes in a further three rounds.
Fellow Cobden team-mate Jonty Robertson also polled well for the season, finishing in eighth position with a creditable 14 votes.
In the under 14 football Stuart Brunt Award, Jack Sobey from the Hamilton Kangaroos took the honours with 29 votes.
Cobden’s Edmund Walsh finished with 20 votes to take fifth spot.
