Vaccine rollout arrives in Mortlake
COVID-19 vaccinations have recently begun to rollout in Mortlake, with the AstraZeneca vaccine now available at the Mortlake Medical Clinic.

COVID-19 vaccinations have recently begun to rollout in Mortlake, with the AstraZeneca vaccine now available at the Mortlake Medical Clinic.
The vaccinations will be available to persons over the age of 60 every Wednesday, with those wanting to receive the jab encouraged to book an appointment.
Mortlake Medical Clinic’s Dr Jamila Perera said this was the first time vaccines have been able to be delivered locally in Mortlake, which represented an exciting change for rural communities.
“I think earlier the vaccinations started in the main clinics and the main cities, but are increasingly being delivered in regional areas,” she said.
The clinic will need to keep vaccination numbers in multiples of 10, as one vial contains enough of the vaccine for 10 shots.
On the opening day of vaccinations at the Mortlake Clinic (June 23), 20 attendees received the jab.
“When we open the vial we can give it to 10 patients, otherwise we are wasting it,” Dr Perera said.
Those wanting to receive the vaccine have been urged to book ahead to ensure the highest number of patients can be seen.
“We’ve had people booking in online which is great, even elderly people,” administrator Rachelle Waters said.
“People are also welcome to call ahead.
“This is an opportunity for those who can’t get to Warrnambool or get in to the big places or don’t have access to transport.
“They can call here and they can call Warrnambool, or any of our clinics to book in.”
Dr Perera said the clinic would accept walk-ins but encouraged people to book ahead to avoid missing out.
“We can only accept walk-ins if our appointments aren’t full,” she said.
“At the moment we’ve got enough places for walk-ins to fill in the forms, but that might not be available in the future so please call ahead.”
Clinic staff have taken measures to ensure the safety of patients, including setting up two waiting rooms. Those exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will be required to be tested prior to receiving the vaccination.
The clinic is located at 25 Boundary Road, Mortlake.
