Victory for Beasley

THE Barry Beasley owned-and-trained Archleo stormed home to take the Wimmera Mallee Vet Services Stawell Trotters Cup earlier this month.
The seven-year-old gelding recorded a thrilling victory, surging the field to grab the lead on the final stretch in a nail-biter.
Archleo was well off the pace early, holding a consistent pace while jostling for position kept the gelding hovering around sixth place as the bell rang for the final lap.
But driver Jackie Barker kept a cool head, finding an outside lane with half a lap to go and surging to second in just a few hundred meters.
Turning the final corner Archleo held the outside as Travelbug pushed to maintain its long-held lead, but Achleo inched a nose ahead with less than 100 metres remaining to snatch victory.
Beasley hailed the victory as a clear stand-out performance.
“It was the best win of our career,” he said.
“It’s the first cup I’ve ever won. That was just great.
“It was a very exciting race. I thought he was a runaway, but he proved me wrong.”
Beasley congratulated the efforts of driver Jackie Barker in guiding Archleo to victory.
“She’s a beauty, you can’t fault Jackie,” he said.
Beasley plans to next run Archleo in Geelong at Geelong Race Day on Boxing Day.
