POMBORNEIT has taken out the South West Cricket T20 competition.
The Bulls put on a strong performance with the bat to notch up a quick 6/144cc in Saturday night’s grand final while restricting opponents Cobden to just 67 runs.
Bulls’ batsman Tharaka Sendanayake contributed a blitzing 60 not out and was well supported at the crease by David Murphy with 38 and Tom Place 22.
Sendanayake followed up with the ball, taking 2/6 off four while team-mate Danussika Gamaralalage was also effective, taking 2/17 off four.
Cobden’s Matthew Kemp 31 and Angus Uwland 11 were the best of the Knights’ batters while Josh Hickey finished the night with 1/3 off one and Raghavendra Rangarajan 2/25 off four.
Last weekend’s T20 knock-out saw Cobden play Camperdown, Noorat v Woorndoo, Pomborneit v Terang and Heytesbury Rebels v Bookaar in the first round.
Wins to Cobden and Bookaar saw them battle in the first semi-final, while Pomborneit took on Noorat on their way to the final decider.
Results from the qualifying rounds were as follows:
Cobden 5/111 defeated Camperdown 9/110cc.
Best of the batters for Cobden were Angus Uwland 35 and Josh Hickey 19 not out, while for Camperdown TharinduRukshan 38 and Jye McLaughlin 26 were the main contributors.
Best bowling figures were Angus Uwland 4/15 off four and Jia Anderson 2/7 off two while for Camperdown, Tharindu Ruskshan 2/14 off four and Jordan Riches 2/22 off three.
Noorat 2/90 defeated Woorndoo 9/89cc.
Best with the bat for Norat were Jamie Harrison 35 not out and Jacob Fishwick 34 while for Woorndoo, Tyler Schafer 33 and Brody Mifsud 17.
Thomas Clissold was the best of the bowlers for Noorat with 4/16 off four while Daniel Fowler 1/15 and Issac Fowler 1/18 were best for Woorndoo.
Pomborneit 9/189cc defeated Terang 89.
Best with the bat for Pomborneit were Tom Place 40 and David Murphy 30, while Tyson Hay 42 and Tyson Boyd 14 were the main contributors for Terang.
Best of the Pomborneit bowlers were Stephen Hill 3/14 off four and Easton Wood 2/13 off two, while for Terang Bailey Kavanagh was effective taking 3/23 off three and Charlie Scanlon 2/29 off four.
Bookaar 4/120cc defeated Heytesbury Rebels 8/110.
Lachlan Green’s knock off 58 not out was a highlight of Bookaar’s innings, followed by Simon Baker on 18.
For the Rebels, Thomas Hunt finished on a creditable 43 not out while Paul Vogels made 27.
Best of the bowlers for Bookaar were Hamish Sinnott 2/17 off three and Thomas Baker 1/15 off three, while for the Rebels Paul Vogels finished with 2/17 off four and Thomas Hunt 1/2 from one.
In the semi-final rounds, Cobden enjoyed a one wicket victory over Bookaar, 94 to 7/93cc.
Angus Uwland 32 and Matthew Boyle 17 were best with the bat for Cobden while Bookaar’s Tim Fitzgerald added 29, supported by Simon Baker with 28.
Best bowling figures went to Raghavendra Rangarajan 2/19 off four and Angus Uwland 2/10 off four (Cobden), and Simon Baker 3/19 off four and Tim Fitzgerald 2/21 off four (Bookaar).
The second semi-final match saw Pomborneit 2/128 defeat Noorat 4/126cc.
The Bulls’ Tom Place 38 and David Murphy 36 performed best with the bat, while for Noorat Jacob Fishwick 33 and Jamie Harrison 29 were top scorers.
Best bowling figures went to Stephen Hill 2/18 off four and Easton Wood 1/21 off two (Pomborneit) and Noorat’s Jack McConnell 1/12 off one and Jacob Fishwick 1/25 off three.
