Victory for Camperdown

Both Camperdown Golf Club men’s pennant teams won their Western District Golf Association finals at Heywood last Sunday.

Both Camperdown Golf Club men’s pennant teams won their Western District Golf Association finals at Heywood last Sunday.

Camperdown played Terang in division two scratch, and with three wins apiece it came down to the number four pairing of Nigel Bruckner (Terang) and Tommy Baker (Camperdown).

This match had been close all day and had collected quite a gallery of supporters as it went to extra holes.

Fifteen-year-old Tommy Baker, playing his first season of pennant, showed nerves of steel to close out the match on the 20th hole, sealing the victory for Camperdown.

This win has earned Camperdown the right to play division one scratch next year.

David Absalom (Camperdown) lost to George Beasley (Terang) 5/3.

Simon Baker 5/4 defeated Phillip Beasley.

Darren Fox lost to Fred Beasley 3/2.

Tommy Baker defeated Nigel Bruckner on the 20th hole.

Gary Thompson 6/4 defeated Steve Arundell.

Liam Lafferty 6/5 defeated Liam Venn.

Luke Clarke lost to Caleb Kavanagh 5/4.

Camperdown had a comfortable win 4.5 to .5 against Port Fairy in Division 1 Handicap.

Alan White (Camperdown) 5/3 defeated Philip Irvine (Port Fairy).

Murray Lucas 5/4 defeated Kim Freeman.

David Reagan 4/3 defeated John Moore.

Andrew Narik and Glenn Mansbridge finished square.

Peter Gubbins 6/5 defeated Gary Cooper.

Division 3 Handicap was won by Terang 3.5 to Timboon 1.5.

Philip Brown (Timboon) was beaten by Patrick O’Connor (Terang) 3/2.

Kevin Plozza was beaten one up by Gerard Justin.

Geoff Norton and Colin Venn finished square.

Grant Stansfield 3/2 defeated NIck Marshall.

Colin Costin was beaten two up by Max Kavanagh. Max, a year nine student playing in just his third pennant match, made a great contribution to his team’s win.

In other finals hosts Heywood won division one scratch 4/3 against Warrnambool and Portland won division three scratch 6.5 to Cobden .5.

David Horan won Wednesday’s par round, the final leg of the round robin, finishing square with the card.

Doreen Horan was runner up with -2, while Jeanette Lambell won the nine hole competition with -1 on the bottom course.

Nearest the pins were recorded by Jess Moulden (second hole), Maree Finlay (ninth hole, second shot), Terri Sinnott (16th hole, second shot) and Jeanette Lambell (17th hole).

Balls down the line were Jeanette Lambell, Leah Cheeseman and Tracey Baker.

Next week is stroke for monthly medal and putting competitions. Jane Bennett is on duty.
