Victory is sweet
FUN, friendship and a little competitive spirit were all celebrated on the courts at the Terang and District Netball Association (TDNA) grand finals on Tuesday evening.
Terang Recreation Reserve played host to the three finals after 15 teams across three divisions competed throughout a six-week season.
In the primary division, the Swifts showcased their skills against the Thunderbirds to record a 14-9 victory.
In the secondary division, undefeated outfit The Redeem Team overcame a slow start to claw their way to victory with a narrow one-point win over Court Queens, 25-24.
In the open division, the close games continued with Court Queens earning a one-point win over The Incredibles.
TDNA president Alison Kenna said it was great to see everyone on the court enjoying themselves.
“(The competition) is something we’ve had since COVID because there was no other sport, but there were certain avenues for playing community sport in an outdoor setting,” she said.
“It’s a term four, short competition which we find just works.
“The primary competition, they enter as individuals and we put them in teams as evenly as we can while in the secondary and open, it’s mixed with a captain putting in the team.
“It’s just a fun competition, really.
“It’s as relaxed as possible – it’s just about having fun with friends.”
Despite the end of COVID-19 restrictions, the demand was strong to continue as all involved were having far too much fun staying connected, or even making new connections.
“It’s a winning formula, so we’ve stuck with it,” Kenna said.
“It’s a fun competition to play with friends before people get busy come December.
“It’s a lot of fun – one of our grand final teams has five cousins on the same team, so it’s great to see people having fun – that’s what it’s about.”
