Vintage cars ready to return
HUNDREDS of historic vehicles are set to descend on Mortlake for the 17th year later this month.

HUNDREDS of historic vehicles are set to descend on Mortlake for the 17th year later this month.
The 2023 Federation Picnic for south west car clubs will return to Tea Tree Lake on Sunday, March 26 from 11am.
Historic and restored vehicles from many eras will roll in to town as car clubs from across Victoria including Geelong, Ballarat, Colac, Camperdown, Portland and Hamilton visit for the annual picnic.
The event is hosted by the Federation of Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicle Clubs (FVVCVC), a state body for car clubs, with Mortlake selected as the perfect middle ground for club members to make their pilgrimage.
FVVCVC vice present John Kennett said the members took pride in providing an economic boost for the town, as well as having an opportunity to talk all things motor car, club and family through a genuine old-style “picnic in the park”.
“For the 17th year, Mortlake will host this event with motoring music again provided by the Lakes and Craters Band,” he said.
“Catering will be provided by the Mortlake Lions Club, along with cakes and sweet goodies from the CWA Day Group and of course, Coffee with the Girls.
“All we need now is day of sunshine.”
Mr Kennett invited the wider community to come along to catch a glimpse of the array of rare vehicles, and learn more about the proud history of motoring.
“Members of the public are more than welcome to join us at the lake, look at the cars, talk to the owners and enjoy a sausage or a cup of coffee and a slice,” he said.
“There is no vehicle access other than club vehicles to ensure safety for all.
“Vehicles will be available for viewing from 11am with the event concluding following formalities from the FVVCVC team and guests at approximately 2.30pm.”
