MEMBERS of the Josie Black Community Health Centre Men’s Group paid a visit to WD News this week for a tour of the printing facilities.
Around a dozen group members received a tour of the WD News office in Camperdown on Monday morning, guided by managing editor Stewart Esh.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the more than 150 year history of the business, and the machinery used to bring the news to print each week.
Group member Jack Wearmouth said he was taken aback by the quantity of material required to print each week.
WD News uses around 1100 kilograms of news print, totalling more than 30 kilometres of paper, and dozens of litres of ink to print the Camperdown Chronicle, Cobden Timboon Coast Times, Mortlake Dispatch and Terang Express each week.
“Through all the papers, how much it takes to print and the equipment which is used for the paper to be printed, was interesting,”he said.
“It amazed me.”
WD News managing editor Stewart Esh thanked the group for visiting.
“We enjoy having the opportunity to connect with our readers and show how much work goes in to bringing our region’s local newspapers to shelves each week,” he said.
“We are fortunate to be one of the few remaining newspaper publishers in regional Victoria to support local employment through on-site printing.
“The excitement we see from visiting groups is a reminder of how fortunate we are to work with this machinery on a daily basis.”
WD News welcomes the opportunity to accommodate visiting groups from acrossthe region.
