Walking group draws dozens of members
THE launch of a new all-abilities walking group in Mortlake has been hailed a success after attracting a diverse range of participants.
The group was launched through Terang and Mortlake Health Service earlier this year to give members of the community an opportunity to enjoy physical activity while strengthening social connections with others.
Members enjoy a walk around Tea Tree Lake every Wednesday (8.30am) and Thursday (9.30am) morning, after meeting at the Mortlake Community Health Centre at 23 Boundary Road, Mortlake.
Terang and Mortlake Health Service allied health assistant Chris Johnston said he was pleased with the number of people drawn to the concept.
“It’s been great, the response has been fantastic,” he said.
“We had 31 people across the first three sessions, so it’s been really good.
“We’ve been blessed with some great weather, so we’re looking forward to continuing every Wednesday and Thursday morning.”
Among those taking part in the initiative was Kelsey Harris, who said she was enjoying the social nature of the group.
“I wanted to meet new people,” she said.
“I’m a little bit isolated and don’t get the opportunity to meet people through work, so walking with the girls is awesome.”
The all-abilities walking group is always happy to welcome new participants on the day, or Mr Johnston can be contacted via the Josie Black Community Health Centre on 5592 0300 for more information.
