The Renegades claimed their first WBBL title last Sunday, defeating the Brisbane Heat by just seven runs in front of a big crowd at the MCG.

Wareham and fellow south west Victorian Milly Illingworth (who grew up in Port Campbell) both played pivotal roles in the Renegades’ victory.

Having lost the toss and being sent in to bat, the Renegades clocked up 9/141 from their 20 overs.

Wareham made a quick-firing 21 runs from 21 balls in a knock that included three boundaries, proving instrumental in the inning.

She was also the most frugal of the Renegades bowlers, conceding just 12 runs in her two overs.

Nineteen year-old Illingworth also took a wicket in her spell.

The fast bowler has been honing her craft with the Renegades after crossing from the Melbourne Stars where she made her Big Bash debut in 2023.

Sunday’s rain-interrupted match saw Brisbane Heat’s innings shortened to 12 overs, giving them a target of 98 runs using the DLS method.

The Heat needed 19 off the final over but fell short, finishing on 6-90.

The win is a fairytale ending to the Big Bash season for the Renegades, who have gone from last to first in just 12 months.
