MORTLAKE cricketer Georgia Wareham will head to Mumbai for next month’s inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League competition.

Wareham continues to make her mark on the big stage, picked up by the Gujarat Giants in this week’s first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) player’s auction in Mumbai.

As the WPL gears up for its inaugural tournament, all five cricket franchises finalised their teams at Monday’s auction.

Gujarat Giants, owned by Adani Sportsline, has signed up an exciting line-up including Wareham and her two Australian team-mates Beth Mooney and all-rounder and three-time World champion Ashleigh Gardner.

“This (the auction) marks the beginning of a new and exciting journey for us all at Gujarat Giants and we’re delighted with the squad we have put together,” Mithali Raj, Giants mentor and advisor said.

“With all our bases covered, we now begin our preparation for the upcoming tournament.”

Head coach Rachael Haynes was excited with what she described as a “solid squad.”

“We have an eclectic mix of Indian and international players, all of whom can turn a game on its head single-handedly,” Haynes said.

The WPL will be held in Mumbai from March 4-26.

A total of 22 matches will be played at the Brabourne Stadium and the D.Y. Patil Stadium.
