New face: Ilona Watkins began in the role as acting principal at Cobden Primary School last week.

Starting in the role last Monday, Mrs Watkins is expected to remain until at least the end of term 1, 2025.

“It’s fabulous; the staff, students and community have all been very welcoming,” she said.

“It’s a very well oiled ship, everyone knows there role and what needs to be done to best support the students.”

Mrs Watkins comes to Cobden Primary School from Noorat Primary School, where she was principal for four years.

She said she was looking forward to new opportunities at Cobden Primary School.

“It will be fantastic to have new opportunities and a wider range of staff,” Mrs Watkins said.

“I like going to other schools, even as a principal to see what they are doing differently.

“It’s very exciting; I’m looking forward to the learning and challenges as I get to know the staff, students, school and community.”

Mrs Watkins said she decided on teaching as a career at a young age.

“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher; even in primary school,” she said.

“Prior to Noorat Primary School I was a leading teacher at Grassmere Primary School between 2011 and 2020.”

Mrs Watkins said she was looking forward to meeting the wider community, with Cobden Primary School enjoying strong connections with the Cobden Kindergarten and Cobden Technical School.
