Trees and powerlines were brought down in the strong winds, with some buildings damaged from debris.

A Victorian State Emergency Services (SES) spokesperson said from 7pm Sunday to 7am Monday, the SES received over 4500 requests for assistance across the state.

“Just over 3000 related to trees down, and 1500 related to building damage,” the spokesperson said.

“For Camperdown, we’ve had 10 requests for assistance, and the same for Lismore since Sunday night.”

A Powercor spokeswoman said the strong winds caused significant damage to parts of their network statewide, which included parts of Camperdown, Lismore and Derrinallum.

High risk: A section of the Manifold Street footpath was closed on Monday when George Taylor’s lightbox sign became loose in the strong winds.

“Among the hardest hit areas were Victoria’s southern area and southwest coast, with trees and branches bringing down powerlines, damaging poles and leading to power outages,” the spokesperson said.

“During this event, about 153,000 customers were impacted across our network and over 400 individual fault jobs recorded.

“Our crews worked around the clock to get power restored to all homes and businesses by the end of Tuesday.

“We thank all customers impacted by the storms for their patience and understanding as we responded to this major weather event.”

The outages forced some businesses in Lismore and other smaller towns to close for the day.

Residents were reminded to stay informed and keep checking weather updates and the VicEmergency app.

Busy days: Camperdown’s SES unit has been busy up until Monday, clearing fallen trees over roads and on fences.
