Strong winds which were reportedly equivalent to a category three cyclone saw trees toppled across the region as well as storm surge warnings issued for the coastal areas.

Port Campbell’s normally docile bay was a turbulent mass of waves on Sunday with high tides and large seas cresting over the sea wall.

Victorian State Emergency Service volunteers were again kept busy being called to fallen trees and reports of damaged properties across the area.

Between 7pm Sunday night and 12noon Monday Cobden VICSES brigade attended 10 requests for assistance and the Port Campbell unit attended 21 requests for assistance.

Power outages were widespread on Monday with homes disconnected from Tesbury to and Nullawarre and along the coast between Port Campbell, Peterborough and Princetown.

A Powercor spokesperson said if residents see a fallen powerline, they should always stay more than 10 metres away from them and report them to us immediately on 13 24 12.

Due to severe weather over the past few days, Corangamite Shire Council will provide free green waste drop-off at its transfer stations from Tuesday, September 3 until Monday, September 9 (inclusive).

This is for non-commercial customers and shire residents only and is to assist property owners to clean up storm damage.

For more information, go to corangamite.vic.gov.au or call Council on 5593 7100.
