Win caps off season
THE Terang Mortlake Bloods senior side capped off the season with a nail-biting comeback win over Cobden on the weekend.

THE Terang Mortlake Bloods senior side capped off the season with a nail-biting comeback win over Cobden on the weekend.
The Bloods crept home 11.5.71 to 10.10.70 after finding themselves down 18 at the half, in part thanks to an eight-goal haul from William Kain.
The Bombers got out to a fast start with a 3.5.23 to 2.0.12 lead. By half time, Cobden had extended the lead to 7.7.49 to 5.1.31.
Terang came out of the half time break with blistering pressure both on and off the ball, climbing back to lead 7.8.50 to 9.4.58 at the end of the third.
Cobden mounted a valiant comeback to bring the game back in to reach but the Bloods held on to record the one-point victory.
“It was an exciting game to finish the season off,” senior coach Ben Kenna said.
“It was pretty tight all day.
“Both sides went stretches through the game where they probably were the better side, but there was nothing really splitting us in the end.”
Kenna said the message to his team facing a half time deficit of 18 was to take control with the Sherrin in hand.
“We just had to maintain our pressure which has been good throughout the later part of the season,” he said.
“We just needed a bit more composure when we had the footy and to hit some targets.
“We made a few mistakes in the first half which cost us some goals so we just tidied that up a little bit, which limited Cobden’s ability to get goals as easy as they did.
“That was the main thing. Stay composed.”
Best players were William Kain, Samuel Mclean, Xavier Vickers, Rhys Buck, Isaac Kenna and Samuel Crawley.
Kain slotted eight goals while Tyler Vickers, Harris and Mclean scored one apiece.
“Sam Mclean did well the second half,” Kenna said.
“Rhys Buck was good for his first game for the club, he was dangerous.”
Kain found fine form in the final stages of the season, belting home 20 goals in the final three games.
The season was a tale of two halves for the Bloods, beginning the year with a single game in their first nine contests including a seven game losing streak.
The team bounced back in the second half of the year, winning five of the remaining nine games.
The Bloods side leaned heavy on younger players throughout the year and began to find form as the younger side acclimatised to the speed of the senior division, providing the glimpse of a bright future.
