WOMEN and their involvement and support of cricket and community will again be celebrated later this month.

For the third year, Cobden and Terang cricket clubs will contest a ‘Women’s Day Cup’ while enjoying a women’s appreciation day.

This year the event will be held at Cobden this Saturday February 18, with the round 12 division one game scheduled between the two clubs to start at 3.30pm and the appreciation day celebrations to commence from 5pm.

Cobden senior coach Matthew Boyle said 2023 would be the third year the day had been held between the two clubs and they were expecting the event to be “even bigger than before.”

“It’s a great opportunity for us all to recognise and say thanks to all women for their involvement and support they give to not only their local cricket clubs but also to their communities,” Matthew said.

“Both clubs have fully embraced the concept and it has become a wonderful day of celebration, with the ladies all coming together to enjoy each food, drink and each other’s company while being able to watch a great game in comfort.”

It is anticipated the day will also incorporate live music into the evening as well as games and “lots of fun and laughter.”

For the first time in the event’s history, an actual cup will be contested – with Cobden currently holding bragging rights after last season’s win

“Both sides are in good form at the moment so the game could go either way,” Matthew said.

“Last year I think we won by only about 28 or so runs so I’m sure it’ll be a close one. Because of the scheduled later start, we’re expecting some of it to be played under lights which will add to the atmosphere.”

Women from both cricket clubs are welcome to attend the celebrations, along with any others in the district who enjoy “good cricket and a good time.”

“This is our chance to say thanks to the women in our clubs and communities,” Matthew said.

“My wife Taylor and her band of volunteers have put a great deal of work into organising the day’s celebrations and I’m sure it will be a great one for everyone.”
