Young guns shine
THE future looks bright for the Timboon footy club, with several young guns shining on a regular basis.
THE future looks bright for the Timboon footy club, with several young guns shining on a regular basis.
Senior coach Marcus Hickey remains upbeat despite his side still searching for its first win after 14 rounds.
“We try not to get too caught up in the scoreboard and just look at the positives,” Hickey said.
“And there really are quite a few of those. We’re showing improvement from week to week and we have a mix of experience and youth in our line-up every Saturday.”
Last weekend’s clash with Old Collegians was another tough one for the Demons but Hickey was full of praise for his charges, who showed some good passages of play in trying conditions.
“We started really well and kicked the first two goals and it was goal for goal in the first time; we went into the main break only 17 points down,” Hickey said.
“But unfortunately, as has been the case in past weeks, we just ran out of legs in the second half. We had five under 18s playing their second game for the day and that really gets tough on them especially in the second half of the seniors.”
Young gun Mitchell Wallace earned praise from the coach.
“Mitchell is certainly one to watch; he played a great game through the midfield and half-forward.” Hickey said.
“And Ben Bacon was also good for us in the midfield. He’s always reliable and consistent."
“Our juniors will make finals so that’s the priority for those young blokes, but it’s also about getting games into them so we need to keep that balance.”
Final scores on Saturday were Timboon 6.12.48 lost to Old Collegians 18.15.123.
Best players for the Demons were Ben Bacon, Luke Smith, Mitchell Wallace, Thomas Marshallsea, Isiah Arundell and Ben Matthews.
Goal kickers were Adam Doak (2), Jordan Fowler, Jack Grant, Marcus Hickey and Sam Negrello.
In the reserves, Timboon lost 2.2.14 to 15.12.102.
Benjamin Mitchell and Troy Tickner were the only goal scorers while best players included Zeth Kerr, Bradley Little, Clint Watson, Max Bond, Ben Nicholls and Troy Tickner.
The Demons will head to Panmure this Saturday.
